Consecrated in 1798, the Church is still today a historical and architectural jewel of Ligornetto . It is a rectangular building transformed in the years 1735/39 in the Baroque style. In the stucco frame above the internal window we find Santa Cecilia and an inscription in Latin which means: “1772 I chose this place for myself”. It is certainly an important date for the history of the church.
The facade has two orders of pillars culminating in a tympanum, with cornices in a curved line and to the left of the main hall we find the ancient ossuary. The nave with three bays has a barrel vault and above the square of the choir, a dome with pendentives decorated with excellent illusionistic paintings from 1777 by Cipriano Pelli di Aranno (1750 – 1822). The three large canvases on the walls represent episodes from the life of San Lorenzo, works by Giovanni Battista Innocenzo Colomba (Arogno 1717 – 1801).[/vc_column_text][trx_image url=”1798″ align=”right” width=”35%” top =”25px”][vc_column_text css=”.vc_custom_1531147285250{margin-top: 25px !important;}”]Regarding the wonderful balustrade, Martinola notes: “The presbytery is surrounded by an eighteenth-century polychrome marble balustrade, in cartouche instead of balustrades, of virtuous workmanship and probably coming from the workshop of Monzini in Como”. On the left altar there is an eighteenth-century statue of the Madonna; opposite, seventeenth-century altarpiece of the Crucifixion.
The first modern restoration dates back to 1914, while further restorations took place in 1964 and very recently. After the various restoration works it is now possible to visit it entirely, as well as participate in the Holy Masses that take place there regularly.

This church, where the festival of San Giuseppe takes place annually on March 19, has been recently renovated. In fact, some paintings were discovered on the main facade which, after long restoration works, were able to find new life.[/vc_column_text][vc_separator color=”custom” css=”.vc_custom_1531147251319{margin-bottom: 5% !important;}” accent_color=”#ffffff”][ess_grid alias=”gallery_san_giuseppe”][/vc_column][/vc_row][vc_row css=”.
